ROLI has finished shipping the LUMI keys to Kickstarter backers, and is now accepting pre-orders for new batches. Brandon Rico Simpson got an early unit from the Kickstarter batch and has had some issues. His problems, and ROLI's lack of communication, sound very familiar to me. One reader emailed me over the course of months as she dealt with poor manufacturing and support from ROLI for their original Seaboard.
After a very long wait, I finally got my LUMI keys Smart Keyboard in the mail. After using it for 4 months here are my thoughts. Hopefully I’ve answered some questions. Let me know what you would like to see more of with Roli LUMI keyboard content.
Roland just released a couple of new drum machines with confusingly similar names! There's the TR-06 which faithfully recreates a TR-606, and can join it in the trash bin of music tech history. Then there is the much more interesting TR-6S; which includes all of the sound design found on the TR-8S, in a smaller $400 package!
loopop compares the TR-6S to the TR-8S, and the distinction it makes from the similarly-sized MC-101!

YouTuber Opificio Sonico brings us another Toa Mata Band "live" performance!
Toa Mata Band is known as the first LEGO® music robots orchestra made of Bionicle figures. Each band member is built using lego Bionicle and Technic pieces. It's a system of electric motors, rubber bands and pulleys connected to the figures arms that allows them to play an array of different touchable synthesizers, drum machines, smartphones and electronic percussions.
YouTuber BANANA su is back with another video of the NuEVI with his iPad. The video starts off with an impressive performance in Model 15, and continues with a lengthy tutorial in Japanese on setting it up.
Video Description (Googlish Translation):
I connected NuEVI from Berglund Instruments to my iPad and played it.
Since it is also driven by USB bus power, power is also supplied from the iPad! This time, it comes with a simple setup guide.

Roland released firmware updates for the MC-101 and MC-707. The most impressive feature in here is USB Class Compliant drivers! Roland are notorious for their shitty driver support, with many of their legacy devices becoming unusable due to a lack of necessary driver support.
