Let's Play with ReBirth: Song Composition

This week's Let's Play is quite different. Instead of exploring an app, I'm using an app to explore song composition. There are many ways to make a song, and this one is mine. I'm seriously pushing the YouTube attention span on this one at 25 minutes, but Patreon Patron Richard Thompson had suggested I could try a longer video from my usual ~15 minute target. Although this is longer than my recent iMPC Pro video, it is a hell of a lot more focused and coherent.

Video Description:

I've gotten a lot of requests to describe my process for developing bass lines and Acid lead lines. In this video I attempt to do that! ReBirth is an excellent app to demonstrate both. I even throw in some details on working out drum patterns. Along with tips for playing Acid live. I tried to keep this as Squelch-lite as possible so as to avoid driving non-acid fans crazy. How to Prevent Individual App Updates (Jailbreak)

Anytune was updated over the weekend, which the Anytune developer encourages users to avoid if you want to be able to download YouTube videos. Reader Steve Harrington asked on Twitter if there was a way to block an app from being updated, so you can continue to update other apps with the Update All button.

The answer is yes, but this method is only available on jailbroken devices!

With iFunbox or iFile you can navigate to the app directory and simply rename the iTunesMetadata.plist file. I recommend renaming it to something you will recognize so that you can easily revert it if you want to ever update the app in the future. I use iTunesMetadata.plistBACKUP, so I know to just remove the BACKUP from the name.

Reboot your device and the app will no longer show up in the App Store update list! I further tested this and Update All will no longer effect the app either! Here is a screenshot of renaming in iFile, by clicking on the file's info icon.

Let's Play with iMPC Pro

Patreon Patrons voted for iMPC Pro as this week's Let's Play video. It was a very close call, narrowly beating out Audulus by 1 vote. Unfortunately I came down with a cold and have been fighting it all week long. I rallied triumphantly with the aid of pseudo-ephedrine and caffeine to bring this to you in a timely manner!

Video Description:

iMPC Pro is a major upgrade from the previous iMPC. In this video I try to condense some good workflow tips into 20 minutes. This Let's Play was suggested and voted on by Patrons! To support this series please consider sponsoring them on Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/user?u=107612

Let's Play with Mitosynth

I loved Grain Science, and Wooji Juice's latest app gives me more of what I loved. Deep modulation everywhere, in a simple and easy to use package! Since the app is so easy to use it is kind of a challenge to make an informative Let's Play. I hope I managed to do so, on this dive into the Additive synthesis elements and other goodies!

Video Description:

Mitosynth is a unique new app, equipped with a hybrid additive-wavetable synth engine and a sampler. This app gets deep, with layers of modulation, but does so in an easy to use interface. All of this makes for big sounds and a fun time exploring them! If you enjoy these Let's Play videos please consider sponsoring them on Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/user?u=107612

Let's Play with SunVox: Patch Design & Commentary

Last week I asked Patrons to pick the next Let's Play video, and SunVox was their choice. With good reason too! This app has been continuously updated for nearly 5 years, making it one of the most massive modular environments on iOS. Here I explore just the modular synth elements, avoiding the dreaded tracker.

Video Description:

SunVox is an elaborate music platform available on iOS, Android, Mac, PC, and even Linux. This Let's Play focuses on the modular synthesis elements, which I personally find to be most fun. This one was suggested by Patreon Patrons! If you enjoy these Let's Play videos please consider sponsoring them on Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/user?u=107612
