AUM by Kymatica

Kymatica's long awaited Audiobus mixer AUM arrives today as a Universal iOS app! It can even host AUX and IAA apps as well, making it a true central hub for your iOS mixing! There's also support for MIDI routing and syncing everything up with Ableton Link. AUM arrives on sale for 50% off.

AUM - Audio Mixer iTunes Description:

AUM is the flexible audio mixer, recorder, and connection hub for your iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

Connect hardware inputs and outputs, Audio Unit extensions, Inter-App Audio apps, Audiobus, soundfile players, built-in signal processing and filters, in any configuration you want.

Route anything to anywhere with mix-busses, effect sends, audiobus ports, and external multi-channel audio interfaces.

Play hosted synths and instruments using the built-in keyboard or external MIDI controllers, or sequence them from other apps using Virtual MIDI.

Record mixes, individual tracks, or both, straight into the storage space of AudioShare (no copying of files needed).

Play back recordings, soundfiles and loops as channel sources in the mixer for backing tracks, further processing or mixing.

Route MIDI in any way you like using the MIDI matrix.

Synchronize everything with the sample-accurate transport clock and play in time with other apps or devices using Ableton Link, a new technology that synchronizes beat, phase and tempo of Ableton Live and Link-enabled iOS apps over a wireless network.

Includes built-in processing nodes for various stereo processing, Mid/Side balance and conversion, EQs and filters, limiting, clipping and saturation. Or use any 3rd party Audio Unit extension or Inter-App Audio effect.

All controls in the mixer can be controlled via MIDI, including parameters of hosted and built-in plugins.

...oh, and if someone is running an iPad pro... Please could you provide your feedback, thanks

I bought this first thing this morning and only had time to play with it briefly on my subway commute. In that short time, I was able to easily set up three channels with Thor (via Audiobus), iSem as an audio unit and Borderlands Granular (via Audiobus). I added Tap Delay to Thor and Turnado on Borderlands, using the effects slots within AUM. Also added a Low Pass Filter to iSem and a high pass to Borderlands.

My point is that I set up a rather complex workflow quickly. The user interface is intuitive and you'll get the hang of it quickly.

I have fairly new hardware (iPad Air 2) so I experienced no issues. I saved my Audiobus setup as a preset there and my AUM session as a preset within AUM, quit everything and fired it all back up with no issues.

On top of that, recording my output to Audioshare was a breeze and left me with three separate files (one for each channel) that I can now take into Ableton on my laptop and fine tune mix.

I was using Mimix for live gigs, but this is going to be my go-to now. Just gotta try out MIDI mapping to my control surface when I get home.

Well done, Kymatica! Above and beyond, like always. Well worth the sale price for sure, but I'd probably grab it at full price if I hadn't been so lucky today.

I've just installed and already there's hiccups. Not sure if it's user errors yet... But regardless, I'm in love with this interface and it's a boon to my setup. My head is just swirling with new ideas already. Wow.

In the video, once there were 3 instances going, I started hearing little crackling/clicks, probably CPU related. Looked like it was running at just below 50%. I suspect it isn't related to the host app, but just running 3 iSEMs. Not surprising. Anyone know what hardware version of iPad that is?

Just did a quick run through using ipad4/iOS 8.4. AUM works fine, but like anything on this generation of iPad it can be taxed pretty quickly. I played a keyboard through my Berhinger is202 interface, which AUM recognized instantly and recorded the sounds with no problem. Then I used the keyboard as a midi controller for a couple of apps. SynthMaster player had a few crackles, which tends to happen in AudioBus as well on this iPad. I then loaded Altispace (reverb), and Guitar Capo+ but hit a wall there and had a horrible buzzing from Guitar Capo.

I may try this again with different app combos later on, but I have an iPad-mini2 which will work much better for a complex AUM setup. I'll check that later today...I'll see how far I can stretch it until it breaks.

Not all crackle troubles, but turning down the output volumes of certain apps helps. The 3 lights next to each channel app show if the app is running hot. I had crackles with some apps to start with, then got my levels good and all has been hunky dory since.

Bought it today while i was interviewing Jonatan on Skype about AUM. He was the one who told me it was now available :)
As for the interview, i'll make it available soon. But i want to spend some quality time with the app first. We're so spoiled lately^^

@stub thx for the suggestions but they came after the interview was done. I'll send some follow-up questions before publishing the interview.

Of course, clipping. Yea, that makes sense, three synths banging levels.

Tested on my IPad4...yes, it cracks...but you can strongly improve this by incrementing the buffer size that is set to 256 in standard. I set it to 1024 and then it was perfectly usable in my (reasonable) flow

this looks so slick and damn neat to use, but i dont play live at all and i dont see myself ever using it, since i record everything into auria. i rarely use audiobus now. fak :(

February 24, 2016  | person_outline Petrov

^ @petrov this is exactly the opposite of how I feel. When Auria Pro came out, with all the hype and joy, I sat there with no clue what to do in a DAW ;-b

So I felt left out and went back to Loopy HD.

Today is a good day for me =D

clicky linky = bang!

Taxes my iPad 4, not surprisingly, as I'm app greedy! I think I'll buy an air2 once the air3 arrives to get Dave's experience. I adjusted the buffer to 1028, which improved things, but I'm an app slut, I always want more.

I'm looking forward to buying AUM today and also trying it out with Blamsoft Viking which was released today.
