Pepp Beta Preview

Developer Patrik Hedmalm revealed his upcoming Pepp app, a new groovebox with big touchy controls for iPad. In addition to the preview video, Patrik includes a lot of details in the description, like support for Audiobus! There's no mention of the release date though. I'm also including a behind the scenes shot for this video that I found on his Facebook page.

Update: I spoke with Patrik, and he says he's in the final stage of beta testing. He hopes to release within a month.

Video Description:

Pepp is a new and fresh synth experience coming soon to the iPhone and iPad. It is powerful enough for a pro DJ and easy enough for a six year old.

Pepp is immediate, intuitive and vastly musical by nature. This twisted groovebox/arpeggiator/synthesizer lets you quickly forge sweet music by using sixteen sliders and a sixteen step sequencer. Instantly save/recall your loops without missing a beat. With 256 memory slots you're not likely to run out of storage any time soon.

Although extremely fun and powerful by itself, Pepp can also be synced to midi clock, played live from a midi keyboard or sequenced from your favorite DAW. Naturally, all sliders can be mapped to midi controllers and of course Pepp is integrated with audiobus so you can use it with your other apps!

Features:

  • Oscillator types:
    Sine
    Square
    Sawtooth
    Triangle
    Wavetable
    Noise
  • Ten synth oscillators
  • Five drum/bass oscillators
  • FM-synthesis
  • Audiobus
  • Midi clock in / Midi in (notes/CC) / Midi latch/gate
  • Advanced arpeggiator and Advanced drum/bass engine
  • Lo-/Hi-pass filter w/ resonance
  • Delay, Bitreduction, Reverb
  • Instant resample/reloop
  • Detune, Portamento/glide, Glissando
  • Master octave +-2
  • Double/half tempo

This app looks really fun and I like the simplicity of the layout. Can you tweak the parameters other than with the sliders?

More trippy than grippy, but one to watch, I guess ....

Interesting.

Also, Tim, it says it's coming to the iPhone too - not just iPad. Us iPhone-only owners have been missing out on all kinds of fun apps lately - don't reinforce that trend, even by mere omission! Have pity!
