CES 2013: Behringer DJ Controller for iPad

Behringer is at CES 2013 this week and have announced a couple of new DJ Controllers.

The CMD Micro, pictured here, is the one specifically targeted for use with iOS Devices. It very much like the Numark DJ2GO, with the major exception being that the DJ2GO is on sale now and the CMD Micro has been teased since last March, with an expected release of last Summer. Behringer is not speculating on their release date or price anymore.

The big brother to the Micro is the CMD Studio 4A, which looks like it could be a very compelling entry-level DJ controller/audio interface. Unfortunately Behringer has not indicated if this is class-compliant, which would be necessary for use with iOS. Behringer has a terrible reputation for supporting their products with updated drivers, so I personally wouldn't trust anything from them that wasn't class-compliant. They are also known for being very cheap though and at $200, the Studio 4A would be among the cheapest ways to get into DJing.

Here is a video of both from GoFastJames.

Cyclone Analogic TT-303 Unboxing (American English Dub)

Alex from iDesignSound is setting up a new site, x0xclones for fans of 303/808/909/etc. He got a brand new TT-303 in for review and did an unboxing video. I personally get very bored with unboxing videos, but I think he did a great job of making this one very informative. Unfortunately his British English was making me wince, so I've dubbed it in American English!

I realize this is totally off-topic, and these sorts of videos we keep trolling each other with may only be amusing to ourselves...
but it is intensely amusing to us, so sorry if this annoys anyone!

Don't update VoxKit!

The new Audiobus update for VoxKit is up on iTunes, but something has gone awry with the build sent to Apple! The developer, and frequent commenter here as Fessaboy, got in touch with me and asked that I warn you all!

He is on the case and will be issuing a fix as soon as possible.

CES 2013: ION Are Out Of Their Fucking Minds

Let's just take a minute to mediate on this image.

ION All-Star Dance

ION Audio, makers of the All-Star iPad Guitar, have unveiled the most mind boggling iPad peripheral to date, the All-Star Dance. Now you can gyrate rapidly in close proximity to your iPad while it is precariously balanced on a mic stand!

If necessity is the mother of invention, the father must be a close cousin. You might be objecting to this iPad dance mat on the grounds that there are no games that could make use of it, but ION has you covered with a free app that promises to "teach you basic dance moves with fun interactive games."

Those who still balk at ION's innovation, for the simple fact that the iPad screen was never designed to be viewed from kicking-distance...

You should contact ION's R&D department, because they are desperately in need of people with your foresight.

ION Party Rocker

In a fusion of technology and tacky, ION have also announced the Party Rocker at CES 2013. This Bluetooth loud speaker has a light globe on top. The light show this thing produces will pulse and change with your music.

They are really playing up the loud part of this speaker, boasting that it should be heard from 150 feet away.

There is no word on when this will be available, or how much it will cost, but it may end up being my own secret shame. They have a similar product that was previously branded as ION Party Rocker iPhone/iPod Mixer, which retails for around $250-300.

ION Scratch 2 Go

Perhaps of genuine interest will be ION's Scratch 2 Go, a collection of controls that you can suction-cup to your iPad screen. I recall reading about a similar idea, suggested in the music app community, a couple of years ago. ION's take on the concept is quite bulky, but the knobs may be worthwhile on some apps. Once again, there are no details on price or availability.

Digital DJ Tips recorded this little clip of the new controls on BBC.
