There are a lot of videos on YouTube using Vjay, but most of them are just using the stock stuff and I'm sure you're all tired of seeing the same guy dancing in the parking lot. Instead here is an example of truly excellent video remixing. This should be your goal!

Werkbench 1.1.0 Preview

Werkbench developer Bolasol has released a little ambient piece using the upcoming 1.1.0 update.

Here is some ambient music generated from a single sample in real-time. The combination of pitch shifting and feedback makes for giant percolating pads. Enjoy!

All of the sounds are being sampled with the internal mic and speaker. I live in a noisy place so there is a lot of texture added with each level of feedback.

This video features WerkBench 1.1.0 which should be out in the first few weeks of August. I am making use of panning, high-pass filters, and decay settings for each step. These will be available soon!

PixiTracker Update hits iOS

The new visualizer we saw last week for PixiTracker (16-bit) is now available on iOS. PixiTracker 1Bit is still in review though.

The only changes mentioned for this update are the visualizer and miscillaneous bug fixes. The visualizer is just a gimmick, but it's a cute gimmick!

Waviary Free Weekend

Both versions of Waviary are free, now through Sunday. This is a simple little app for ambient jamming.

iTunes Description:

Waviary is a new, interactive musical artwork that is part instrument, part generative ambient music machine, and part virtual wind chimes.

Simple multi-touch control allows anyone to effortlessly create lush ambient soundscapes and environments, or simply listen as Waviary generates it's own "forest-like" sonic environments. The generative player can run while you play as well, allowing for a randomized ambient jam session.

A sleep timer is included...put on headphones and let Waviary's weird, wonderful sounds lull you to sleep.

Sharing music among apps has gotten easier as iOS has matured, but if you're new to the platform it can be confussing to hear about all these different Audio Copying and Audio Pasting things. Hell, even some of the seasoned vets here probably don't know that Sonoma's Audio Copy automatically copies everything into the Pasteboard used by Intua and Garageband. Chip Boaz over at iOS Music and You has you covered with a huge tutorial looking at not just the terminology, but also how it is implemented in individual apps.
