iOS Update Vol. 16: DigiTech iStomp

This week Mitch has me desperately needing a DigiTech iStomp, and I don't even play guitar!

iStomp is an independent DSP stompbox that you program with new effects from the iPad. This is an interesting approach; the signal path is never going through the iPad itself, so you avoid the hiss and static people report in IK Multimedia's iRig. Sweetwater has a nice 3 for $300 deal that's worth checking out.

Custom Animoog Hardware Controller

Synth-Project is putting the finishing touches on an Animoog controller, Anicontrol.

This is the same guy who made the MC-20 controller for Korg iMS-20. He has made quite a lot of these one-off controllers for software synths, and occasionally he sells them. Start saving up now, because the parts alone cost as much as a Moog synth!

iOS MIDI over Bluetooth Low Energy

Jay Coggin was up to some interesting MIDI hacking over the weekend, with iOS MIDI over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

The goal of this project is similar to the WiFi MIDI device, Missing Link, providing wireless MIDI connections for old MIDI gear that doesn't have it. Jay describes his project as being particularly useful for bringing connections for lots of different gear.

This proof-of-concept video shows it working, with an as yet unreleased ROTOSynth app and Logic!
