VS - Visual Synthesizer by Imaginando

Imaginando Lda released VS - Visual Synthesizer. As the name implies, the app explores musical synthesis with graphical representations. It looks beautiful and sounds amazing! VS is also available on desktops.

VS - Visual Synthesizer

VS provides a creative way to generate beautiful graphical representations of your music projects. Driven by both audio and MIDI data, VS is the visual equivalent of a traditional synthesizer.

VS takes the concept of music visualisation to a whole new level of customisation and expression, putting you in control and giving you the power to perform however you want.

VS is powered by graphical materials that you can interact with and layer on top of each other to create complex evolving visuals.

As well as a standalone app, VS includes an AUv3 plugin version, so you can run it directly inside your favourite iOS DAW programs like AUM and Audiobus etc.

As the name suggests, VS Visual Synthesizer can be played live like an audio synthesizer; use your MIDI keyboard to make each layer come alive with the concept of ‘polyphonic visual voices’.

We partnered with new media artist ‘Perplex On’ to bring you a factory preset bank full of amazing interactive visuals, you can start using right away, to create dazzling animations and make your music move in a whole new medium.

I've never gotten into video stuff, and usually try to avoid it. Not that I don't think it's cool, just trying to keep my wandering brain at least on one planet.

This looks interesting, but just judging from the teaser, it looks like a set of audio-sensitive screen savers that you can layer.
definitely worth a shot! thanks for the link to the tutorials.

Not just audio controllable… you can control visuals just like you would mangle audio samples in a sampler/synth app. There are internal LFOs and envelopes as well as tons of modulation possibilities via your midi controllers, sequencers & other midi sources. You can also use your audio (peak and band) as modulators. Think of it as a sampler for video and images as opposed to recorded audio.
Thanks for explaining that, @Tony.

That does look intriguing. Your analogy helps me understand what it's capable of.

One of the terms that you used (screen savers) has me wondering though…

Can you actually bring in your own video and images? None of the YouTube videos I’ve watched cover that and the app description doesn’t actually mention imports of any kind. The videos I’ve watched only dig into the prepackaged stuff and they don’t even put the LFOs, envelopes or the audio modulation to task. If you want to show me what the Modulation sources are truly capable of, push them to extremes so the effect is clearly visible.

I really want to like this and i do hope that you can import your own visual sources. I’ve been using touchViz, but it has limits and there isn’t a good way to sync video to other audio apps. I have had some success using LK to control touchViz, but there is a lot more I would like to do that isn’t currently doable.

Sure, there’s a dedicated background layer that allows you to import your own foto and video material. Many of the factory presets i did for VS actually use it for loading additional animations, logos or textures that can be blended with the internal shader library using the various blend modes. So far, it’s limited to this one layer though, but the dev is evaluating possibilities to enhance this ability. Hope this helps a bit!

Hey Tony
Would be curious to hear about your TouchViZ experiments, as I too would like to have video sync for music on one iPad, and video on the other. It’s great as a VJ tool, and I built a template in MidiDesigner for it.

I got VS today, but I’m reserving my opinion until I really understand it. There is no way to go “true” full screen on it in iOS, which means cropping the image on the projector.

Really basic controls are available for your own videos, but just the basics.
