I've always felt that Jordan Rudess has note diarrhea. Cool exhibition of GeoShred and Agonizer but every time he plays Geo I feel like it unleashes his noise potential, that have fortunate physical limits on an actual keyboard. E.g. It isn't musical any more. Then again, maybe this is just a new form of musical expression that I just don't get.

Plus these demos all sound the same using the Shred Lead on GeoShred Pro.

The agonizer looks awesome, I have to dig into it more to get to learn its capabilities!

I've made my peace with J.R. He's a shredder on the spectrum. He exploits the impressive set of skills that exist in his particular wheelhouse. He gets these great endorsement gigs. He has a keen enthusiasm for new tech.

I guess I've even made my peace with artists who become a brand in and of themselves, and even with artists who become "commercial" successes by selling their name, selling pimple cream, and perhaps cheapening their art and art generally. That's the world we live in, and I can't pretend otherwise.

In a matter not specific to J.R., I still grieve the loss of the concept of "not selling out". It meant something about artistic integrity that I've always thought was important. That means you don't do things because the company likes it, you don't do things because the audience likes it, you make artistic decisions based on what you want/need to express and hear-- even when you yourself don't necessarily "like" it. I'm not sure if I'm even saying it right.

Hey FprintF, I don't often get a comment from you here! I think it's a little of column A, and a little of column B. He's very showy, and if you're not in the mood for that it can be... a lot to take in. I think I'm fortunate to be able to appreciate the showiness, because it's a hell of a show! True virtuosity on display.

I'm not even a fan of his professional work. Dream Theater is just way way way the wrong kind of prog for me. But the man can play in ways that I cannot even hope to achieve. He's moving his fingers all over in a frantic flurry, but there is a subtlety and delicacy in his playing that is amazing.
Ah, Rudess…
In some ways, he’s a living NAMM Booth. And the shredding does add something to #MusicTech. The connection between moForte and Wizdom Music is interesting in this respect. And there are times when it generates different emotions.
As a sax player who actually enjoys the GeoSWARM Tenor Sax patches, JR’s “saxy demos” felt quite cringeworthy. Nothing against the Dude but those demos sound like a keyboard shredder’s idea of what a sax might sound like, not what sax players are getting goosebumps about.

In itself, self-indulgent noodling is an interesting phenomenon. And Jakob’s collab with Bram makes it worth it (though I still might not buy Agonizer).

Well, they say if you only got like 1 or 2 haters, you need to try harder.
