Studio Live Today: Crunck V2 - Free Guitar Amp Sim AUv3

YouTuber Pete Johns demonstrates Crunck V2, one of the many free apps released by Nembrini last week.

Video Description:

Crunck V2 is a FREE guitar amp simulator plugin/effect for iOS that brings the sound of a guitar amplifier to your iPhone or iPad. And did I mention that it is 100% free?

In this video, I take this plugin for a spin on some real (and virtual) guitar tracks in GarageBand iOS.

The more work I have to put into porting my projects from my iPad to Logic, the less motivated I am to even try free AUv3 effect plugins. It’s already bothersome to me that the synths have to be rendered as audio tracks, but I do that with hardware synths too.

The biggest annoyance recently was porting my Gadget projects to Logic. I even bought the Mac OS version of all the Gadget plugins, which was cool for reducing the need to render audio, but then I realized the Gadget track FX had no one-to-one equivalents. Some stuff still needed to be rendered to audio or lose their character.

Edit: I wish AUv3 had some kind of automatic Mac OS compatibility. Porting shouldn’t be too hard, but companies not already on Mac OS with their products aren’t interested (Moog apps in specific were stated to not be ported because of the support costs of all the hosts on Mac OS).
