Fishman TriplePlay Connect Review & Demo

YouTuber Aaron Short Music shows off Fishman's TriplePlay Connect, and gives us a great look at their app. Or something. I got distracted by how sibilant he sounds on that $3,600 Neumann mic. He's got a huge filter, but he sounds like he's trying to speak to snakes with a mic that costs 9x more than an SM7B. U fokking wut m8?

That mic sounded nice to me. I wasn't hearing the sibilance you're talking about, but my "well-traveled" ears only go up to about 14K, perhaps it is above that? That drum loop he triggered was the most sibilant thing I heard, it was like a serrated knife sawing away at the upper edge of my tympanic membranes.

As for the fishman, he says it tracks well, but he didn't seem to mind whatever latency was there. He didn't really dig in to describe or demonstrate what that latency might feel like.

As a user of a guitar with a built-in divided pickup (piezo), and I play in bands with a couple other players who use a Roland GK 13-pin systems, I can attest to that VERY impressive design and implementation. On my GP-10 (GK enabled modeling/synth/effects) some sounds directly convolve (?) the individual string inputs (for modeling other sounds with NO latency), some sounds resynthesize very effectively with no latency are tracking issues. Even the pitch shifting is probably the best there is (which isn't saying much).

When it comes to gear like this, I am as picky/fussy/grouchy as they come. And I give my full recommendation to the Roland GK system, when paired with a Roland/Boss device that exploits it. I've had AMAZING results with my GP-10.

If you're considering the fishman system, definitely do your homework. Read the reviews and know what you're getting yourself into. As an aside, I bought a fishman acoustic pickup/preamp and it was so terrible, I had to take it off and throw it away. I still have a large rectangular hole in the side of my acoustic guitar from that failed piece of shit.
