haQ attaQ: iOS 13 USB Flash Drives & Card Readers

iOS 13.1 is available today, but Apple immediately warned users that it has a security vulnerability. This is related to third-party keyboard apps. According to Forbes, there is a public exploit out in the wild. As always, don't rush to update your main iDevice!

Jakob Haq explores the new iOS 13 feature that finally lets you use USB storage and card readers. This has been a feature in Android since 1.0, if anyone is keeping track... In fact nearly all Android phones have had an SD card slot for additional on-device storage.

Jakob notes that iOS 13 can read from SD cards, but can't eject them. Gaz Williams also noted this in his field report. This is pretty scary to anyone that's had an SD card get corrupted. And they do that all the fucking time. I've had so many problems with SD cards that I try to avoid using them. You can get a 32GB USB drive for $7.

Video Description:

So iOS 13 finally lets us use USB Flash Drives and USB Card Readers with our iPhones and iPad. This is something that we’ve wanted for many years and finally it’s here. In this haQ attaQ episode Im testing this new feature by connecting the oldest Thumb drive I have. I even managed to find a really old card reader that can take both micro SDHC cards and older M2 cards.

Ok so external hard drives are cool .. but has the 3 finger synth thing been cured? And do older IAA synths/apps still work? I’m on a pre 12.4 version of IOS 12 and everything is gelling along nicely on both my 1st gen 12.9 Pro and 2nd gen 10.5 Pro .. so I’m a little chicken on updating to 13
