TB Equalizer by ToneBoosters

Desktop plugin developer ToneBoosters dipped their toes into iOS with an FX Pack for Audio Evolution Mobile back in 2017. Today they take the plunge with the release of TB Equalizer. This is a dynamic equalizer for AUv3 and IAA! This looks good with serious features like Mid/Side stereo processing, and Artificial Intelligence that offers content related suggestions.

TB Equalizer iTunes Description:

ToneBoosters Equalizer is a top-quality, professional, dynamic equalizer plug-in with an unrivalled workflow and a gorgeous, functional user interface.

The ToneBoosters Equalizer app captures the microphone (or external sound card) input and processes the signals in real time. To use it as a plug-in, use an AUv3-compatible host app such as Steinberg Cubasis, Apple Garageband, Audio Evolution Mobile Studio, Auria, or others. ToneBoosters Equalizer will appear in the list of Audio Unit extensions for effect plug-ins.

Key features:

- Mastering grade, professional equalizer and spectrum analyser
- The same professional sound as the desktop version
- Up to 16 filter sections with a very wide range of filter types
- Run each section in dynamic or static mode
- Run each section with digital purity or analog character
- Oversampling and anti-aliasing modes to further improve sound quality
- Use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for content-dependent equalisation suggestions
- Audition mode to easily identify problematic frequency areas
- Automatic make up function for every section
- Zero latency mode for live operation
- Lasso function to select and move multiple filters simultaneously
- Piano display to select musical note frequencies
- Output VU meters showing peak and RMS levels simultaneously
- Undo/redo, and A/B comparison
- Color themes for the user interface
- Adjustable colours for every filter section
- Mid, side, left, right processing for stereo input for each section
- Legacy Inter-App Audio (IAA) support
- Efficient, low CPU usage

What you should know:
- Inter-App Audio (IAA) can only use one instance of this app simultaneously. We recommend to use an AUv3 host to use multiple instances.
- Inter-App Audio (IAA) will only work with a single (mono) channel without an external (stereo) input source. The AUv3 version will support up to 16 channels.
- Licenses acquired for this platform (iOS, iPadOS) are not compatible with other platforms.

I’m getting this one to test out the AI. That’s increasingly becoming a feature for higher end desktop EQs. If I like the AI I may get the desktop version which is $40. I love being able to check out plugins in ios first. With the Fabfilter Q3 and this this has been a good month for desktop to ios EQs. The future FF Q4 will probably have AI functionality.

I got this app and to test it ran in Auria with some tracks I had already spent time EQing with Fabfilter Q2 or Q3. Then I put this EQ, which is the equivilent to TB’s desktop EQ4, in the signal path and bypassed the FF EQs — and the TB EQ’s artificial intelligence “AI Assist” marked most of the trouble spots I fixed with the FF immediately and much faster than I did. I am impressed by the AI assist function. At the minimum I’m using this first on my tracks so I can quickly locate the problem spots. I may end up fixing them with the FFQ3 as it’s a dynamic EQ and much more powerful, but this is great for locating the issues fast.
