Let's Play with Aphelian

This week I was enamored with the fun composition style of Aphelian. On the surface this may look like just a goofy set of swirls, but this is a great way to compose new melodies in an enjoyably unique way.

Video Description:

Aphelian is a new and totally unique way of composing musical sequences. It includes a built-in synthesis engine, but this video focuses primarily on the extraordinary sequencer. Along the way we learn Demonology, and a little bit about ourselves.

I got there first, and disliked it, because I am contentious. But I actually like the video!

I haven't gotten this yet, but really like the dev's other Oscilab app. That app has a continuous pitch mode from which you can make some crazy loops. In Aphelian it is called flow mode, which I would have liked to see in the demo. But check it out if you haven't already.

Also, I just found this out from bad typing on google - aphelion: the point farthest from the sun in the path of an orbiting celestial body (such as a planet)

Ahhh! The whole time in the back of my mind I'm trying to figure out what the name meant. My brain settled on, "Probably something Greek," and I didn't pursue it beyond that. It makes a lot more sense now!
This would be really killer if you could set each orb to a Synth of your choosing through AudioBus.

If you mean having each of the 4 sequencers play 4 different synths on your iPad (like Animoog, Thor etc...) then I think it does that.

I'm pretty sure I saw Doug do that in his video. You don't use Audiobus - the app just sends MIDI out to whatever synth you nominate.

Doug's video showing how to use this app with MIDI synths is here:
