The rest of the video is still entertaining and informative. At one point Chris makes a definitive declaration about the correct pronunciation of AUM's name. He states that it should be pronounced, "Eh You Em." I disagree. I'm pretty sure it should be pronounced like the Sanskrit word Aum, sometimes spelled as Om.
I asked AUM developer Jonatan Liljedahl to break the tie.
Actually I think both is fine. The name is both an acronym for AUdio Mixer, and a word-play/reference to the Sanskrit ॐ, hinting at the all-compassing wholeness of the AUM environment :)
Bah! What does he know?
Developers are usually wrong about the way to pronounce their creations anyhow. Most famously Steve Wilhite, the inventor of the Graphics Interchange Format (GIF), insists that .gif files should be pronounced: Jiff. This would make sense if it were a Giraffe Interchange Format, or a Genghis Khan Interchange Format, but since we're talking specifically about Graphics it is abusrd for the hard G to suddenly become a soft one.
