Apple's reticence on specs makes it hard to get excited about any of their hardware announcements beyond the superficial aspects they reveal. We always have to wait for iFixit to tear them apart before we learn about important details; like how much RAM are they packing in the new iDevices! In the case of the iPad Air 3 and the iPad mini 5, the answer is 3GB. In fact, the internals of the new devices are nearly identical.
Every year Apple announces a new line of upgraded iPads, but there’s one version of the iPad that hasn’t been updated since 2015— the iPad Mini. Well today’s the day and we’ve got our iPad Mini 5, but the question is, is this an updated iPad mini? Or just a shrunken down iPad Air? We know one way to find that out, let’s tear it down.
