There are a lot of music apps. For those of us that have been in the community for a while they've all just kind of slowly added up over time. But when you look at the vast sales lists, it is staggering. Here is another lengthy list. In fact it is so damn lengthy I'm not going to try to combine it with all of the other sales going on this week. You can find them here on their own posts: Black Monday, Black Tuesday, Black Wednesday, Black Thursday.
For the week of Black Friday I like to highlight some of my favorite musical discoveries from the past year. This is mostly just to flex my hipster cred, I do run a music blog after-all, but it's also nice to showcase music that isn't getting the attention it deserves.
My favorite new music find this year is an easy pick. K.Flay's subversive take on Pop is probably keeping her from mass appeal, but it is just as catchy as it is punchy. I'm not surprised to learn that she was a double major at Stanford, because she seems way too smart for Pop too. Her vocal style includes a faux childishness that makes the lyrics themselves feel like a horror show. They're well written, evocative, and dripping with profanity. This is exemplified on Blood In The Cut off Every Where Is Some Where.
