thesoundtestroom: 5 SynthMaster One Instances in iOS 12

iOS 12 is upon us! The end is nigh! Let he who hath understanding reckon the number of the iOS. God's wrath with the wicked is the assurance of his mercy and love for the righteous. Now hear ye in the distance how the wretched cry, "Why didn't I wait to update? Now my shit is fucked."

This is mostly just an incremental update, so there is no reason to expect a lot of problems if you do update. But this is my annual remind that there will always be some problems. I've already seen about a dozen apps scramble out updates to fix iOS 12 bugs. Just give it time. Most developers don't bother with the iOS beta, so they're only now finding out about any bugs. Give them a month or two to get things sorted.

You may be very tempted to rush to update this year when you hear the promise of performance improvements on older devices. In deed, there are a lot of people who seem to be experiencing this immediate benefit to updating. But there seems to be a cut off on performance gains around the iPad Air 2. I've been watching mixed reports from iPad Air 1 users, but most seem to think it didn't improve things at all.

Doug Woods from thesoundtestroom is fortunate enough to have an iPad Air 2! Previously he could only run 3 instances of SynthMaster One before his CPU crapped out, but now on iOS 12 he's able to run 5!

"Previously he could only run 3 instances of SynthMaster One before his CPU crapped out, but now on iOS 12 he's able to run 5!"

this is too vague...

-what ios did he have before?
-which presets was he using? (some take no cpu, some take a lot)
-did he play notes from the synth or did the data come from another app?
yadda yadda yadda - you get my point ;)

What interests me is how it compares to ios 9... Is there anybody out there that upgraded from air2/ios9? - If so, how does it compare?

good luck everybuddy.. =)
i have high hopes for ios12 as a matter of fact... =)

"No longer do you swipe from the bottom of the screen to access Control Center on the iPad and some iPhone models, instead, all new devices will swipe down from the top right corner of the screen instead to summon Control Center."

whyyyy!!!?! :/ :/

does ios still make a big red bar across the top when certain audio apps are minimized?
-> I wrote them about this like twice... because when there is a big red bar across the top, you cannot use the "scroll to top" feature in browsers etc... I suggested a small red bar on the right side so that the scroll feature would still work... and thats not very thought through in my opinion...

ugh apple... love/hate... They always seem to do something that pisses me off with their new releases since steve jobs... I feel that I would be a much better product manager across the board than what those delusional rich bois have to offer... cross my heart and hope to die.
but its a part of their game... their game and all the others who play the carrot n stick game... ;)

ok, rant over...
Im happy they exist...;)
like i said, I have high hopes for ios12 and wish all of us only the best for this cycle...=)

... i like the physical home button... i like a flat back phone... i like this, i like that....

now i am getting the feeling that i will not upgrade hardware anymore..

"everyday we stray further from god"

I am now thinking of turning the internet off. worldwide. that'll teach you all...

.. I also like a flat side, so one could take timer pics or videos with the phone standing on its side - handsfree..
The old appstore was much better too... a nice list to scroll - many apps on one page- not just one app per page - whatever app that they want to push on users and promote... - thats like the same mindset that cigarette companies "testing" their own cigarettes and declaring them healthy" portray..

I hate you , I love you... thank you=)

@Spaced Invader,

One reason I'd appreciate a more specific gesture to invoke the control panel is that it's been a little too easy to accidentally pull it up when I'm scrolling around on a browser. I have to be careful when swiping upward not to go too low.

@stub - I see the logic behind that... But now people with "bigger" phones need two hands to achieve this whereas before it was doable with one hand? This might be troublesome in some situations...? Idk because i do not have a phablet in my pocket... I am just hypothesizing..
- also, "the virtual home button is in the way on our last 3-5 devices" - I'm just guessing here because i still have a se(which i love) but for those with edge to edge display, the home button could simply be placed in the middle of the screen- making it more ergonomic for the users too (less thumb bendy) - no need to change it on all ipads (personal opinion)

Sometimes I really get the feeling that entities, whomever they may be, are doing eir best to push their "learn to accept what you cannot change and deal with it" philosophyonto us... "We do not care for progressive ideas that are easy to implement and would help users, companies, the world, we want to push our mediocrity onto you, play with you and feed off of the negative and positive reaction energy in your souls" - monsters inc. stlye....

That being said, gosh dangit , i cant imagine how it would be without all those techy gadgets.... The internet has opened up a vast horizon of information- i remember when we didnt have internet... Take it in school for example: research everything in the library, fill out library cards, practice your handwriting and the list goes on... Now we have access to nearly all the information we care to indulge in... Education 2.0.... And golly, the creative tools that are available on these silicone based machines... Its amazing... This is all amazing. Period.

Anywho... Updating my phone as we speak... I am jumping into the cold water that to me is ios12- i have high hopes;)

Ok they have pissed me off... What a bunch of tossers....

-> I cannot change appstore country without using all of my store credit first...
-> the damn store is in this "local" language and not in english (how it used to be)
-> did you read that "we are tracking everything you sarch, buy, logging name , ip, machine id" etcetc... Text that pops up when you first open the appstore? Dispicable. First , during setup, they take about "we care for your privacy" " minimal data is sent" -> and two minutes later, in the app store, they tell you that they are tracking , tracing and sending all of your personal info to their servers...

Hypocritical lying scumbag bastards. Fuck you apple.

Ok, the language is back to normal after a reboot...

I take that one back;)

Great, now they put the "restrictions" menu into "screentime"

When screentime is on, it collects all sorts of data. - but you then can resrict account changes etc again.

When screentime is off (because you dont want your data to be collected) you cannot apply restrictions.. - smooth move..

This thing is turning into a "kids" control mechanism for parents.. And a "apple" control mechanism for parents...

Ok... I am no longer getting emotionally involved with apple , software and all these devices... We all know what is going on and the spirit behind it... The wall is now up, and I will let them drain the swamp...

Amazing how they lure you in though... I remember my ios 6 phone - they still had class and cared.. Now they want to suck you dry and control you...

Many years ago, every Mac OS update brought new power & features and stability (yes, but not without its wobbles). My systems got ever more stable.

Then there was a point (after Snow Leopard) where every Mac OS update brought a couple nice features, while it killed another handful of important features I use and need and love. Then, the updates started to come more often.

With each one, I have to go kicking and screaming into some new OS, knowing that some apps will stop working, some features will get more difficult to use, and some new features will make my life more miserable. (First World problems, as we say around here.)

They're new motto, "Let's make it obvious, but not easy."

I hear yah, stub... Thats the voice of reason talking...;)

Well, it (ios12) is fine so far on my iphone se... (Apart from those features that were removed) and

So far, so good.... I am really wondering if i should upgrade my ipad too.... I had planned to go for ios 12 for a long time...(i skipped 10 and 11 on my ipad and skipped 11 on my phone)...

Something tells me that its going to be good for audio... (And thats all i really got the ipad for... Lemur etc...;) )

Golly, that appstore is fuxxed tho... Lol.. -used to be so much classier- the layout so much better.. Now its like its for babies..lol
-> i searched "moog" first thing on the list is an advertisement.. Hahaha.. How desperate.... Then, one moog synth, then a different synth that has nothing to do with moog, then another moog synth... I used to browse the appstore at times... I will not do that anymore...lol

Anywho, good luck again everybuddy:)

Good news then. From 3 to 5 instances is big. I'm running an ipad air 2 as well and the only way i get away with insane numbers of auv3 and fx is by active cooling. I have a 120mm fan blowing on the back to stop the cpu thermal throttling. The fan will be replaced with a large waterblock, pump and radiator soon.
