discchord 7th Anniversary: Behind the Scenes

This month has been such a roller-coaster for me. It started with news that I was going to lose half of my funding, but it ends on a very positive note. Thanks to all of the sponsors and patrons who stepped up to help keep me afloat. The site is going to stick around, so let's celebrate this 7th anniversary!

Usually I do some kind of goofy post for the anniversary, but I'm so grateful to everyone that I wanted to do something special. I've had a lot of requests to do a "Behind the Scenes" video to show you all what it is that I do everyday. I think that this is a fitting time to do that. in this video you get to see exactly what it is that you are helping me to keep doing!

I love my work. I can't thank you all enough for helping me continue it, but I'm going to try. Thank you!

Video Description:

discchord.com is celebrating its 7th anniversary this week! To commemorate this, and thank all of the people who make it possible, I'm taking you behind the scenes. This is the daily life of a professional blogger!

Thank you very much to all of the Patrons and Sponsors who make this possible!

Thank you very much, matrix! Now that I know that you watched it, I'm glad I included a mention of MATRIXSYNTH as part of my daily routine!
Happy 7th Tim! I’ve been following your site since the beginning and actually found out about you through MATRIXSYNTH. Every day when I go om the internet, I always check both of these sites before anything else.

Great insight into the crazy world of Tim Webb! The fasting diet DOES work and there is good scientific evidence to back it up. Puts the body into a repair mode it doesn't fully engage in when people push in food on a regular basis. My BP dropped to very healthy levels in the time I was doing the fasting 2 days per week. One of my sisters has been doing it for years.

I envy your coding. I was a coder back in the 80's. Would love to learn python (for Cinema4d) and/or C++ but I procrastinate so I guess it's not that important to me?

Yeah, MATRIXSYNTH has been great to me and helping me grow the site! He's been promoting my videos since the beginning and he's had some excellent advice over the years.

Yeah, I should have been more clear. The part about it possibly preventing diabetes is the sketchy part. It makes sense, and some studies have shown that Intermittent Fasting can reduce insulin resistance, but the jury is still out on whether or not it will actually prevent diabetes.

There are a lot of other benefits, and that's why I've been sticking to it! I just feel good and healthy!

Yeah, you need to really assess if it is important to you. If it is, do it! Python is fun! Come up with projects for yourself and then make them happen. Python is also powerful, so practically anything you can think of you can accomplish in it. There is a great community around it! Seriously; everyone in the community is nice! There are also lots of helpful tutorials to get started, and answers to get you unstuck!
happpppy aniversary Tim and Discchord!! Thanks for being you!

Congratulations on your anniversary Tim!

There once was a man named Tim.
He’s strong, wise, and likes to grin.
He battled internet trolls.
And stubborn tummy rolls.
All together, let’s raise a glass to him.
I think I heard a podcast on fasting just the other day! its totally got science supporting it, there is quite a chunk of good results to be had by cal restriction even if your not fasting. By over eating we only feed disease and obesity. I think it was bbc crowd science...

Congratulation Discchord. Awesome video, what a nice and cosy home you have!

@Frozen Lonesome: Oh nice! Thanks for the birthday limerick!

@Yak Nepper: Yes! It is basically, "Modern Victorian." When we picked out the floor plan we opted for fewer large rooms, instead of many small rooms. We love it! This is our dream home.
Happy Day Tim!
Thanks for being here, long may you .wav!
@Littlewoodg: Thank you very much! You've been here for so many of these anniversaries, going back at least 5 years!
Yea, thanks, Tim. That was fun. The "Montage" music was fun and perfect.

On that subject of Python. I've never done any programming before, and I'm not sure if I have the attention span or band-width to add a new thing to learn, but if I did-- is Python a good one to learn if I was to only learn one?

Let's say I had these goals:

1. build something that is timing sensitive (like a step sequencer with MIDI functions).
2. build it to work on iOS, possibly mac and possibly Android
3. have a nice looking GUI that is flexible for different device screens.

Is Python a good choice? I might never do it, but who knows?

Thx

One of the pioneers of iPad music and much respect to you to keep your website going and your enthusiasm. Awesome. Love and light. P.S that psytrance sucked! Go to the Soundcloud channel! Hu`gs.

@stub: Python is probably a no on at least 2 of those. It can't really be used for mobile app development (yet). And the GUI stuff is far from flexible. I haven't even tried, but I have not been impressed by the efforts I've seen from others.

Python is still a good first language to learn programming with though! It is easy to get started with. Once you understand how to program, learning additional languages becomes a lot easier. It all just becomes syntax. It would be like if you learned English you could speak any other language; you would just need to learn their unique grammatical rules and maybe a slightly different alphabet.

@Anon: That was my Psytrance... and one of my favorites of my own work.

Wow, seven years! Congrats! This is definitely a daily (at least) stop for me. Thanks for doing this and keeping it going!

Thanks Tim, for so much valuable content, especially when you post my stuff (LOL). I hope you can sustain the site and your way of life for a long, long, time.
@ajp: & @Toz Bourne: Thank you very much guys!
When you were inhaling smoke I was reminded of this:

Oh man, that was a blast from the past! Thanks for that fun reminder never to take salvia.
Good stuff, Tim. As a fellow web dev, I’d been hoping we’d eventually get to see some of the site’s back end. Congrats on the milestone!

Nice! I thought it might be interesting to see my admin tools. I would really love to show off the code. I've poured so much of my time and effort into it, and I'm proud of the results. But that is a security risk. It is weird to put so much of yourself into something that you can't allow other people to see!
A day with Tim at Dischord
Was really kinda funky
Happy Anniversary

:) I searched for that guy on youtube and he's done other comedy (non-salvia) since then.

@Zen: Thank you very much!
Happy anni:)

Why i like this site?

- music app news
- i can post freely, like in the good ol times without having to resort to some failbook login...
- you do not want to try to control the people and their speech in here like in 95% of all those other loser sites out there nowadays..
- fuck fuckity fuck <- see? Adults do not need censorship or the need for a fake facade to "fake" personalities and values to impress whoever... We are who we are and can talk things out without resorting to violence or demeaning others... We recognize the good in ourselves and build on that. How did that buddhist quote go "don't look down on others unless you are helping them up" sometimes we just need a reminder to remember the good.;)

Anywho, live long and prosper, discchord n tim:)

Oh, just to clear things up-> just because i CAN curse or whatever doesnt mean that i will, or ever feel the need here to do so;) -> sry for the "off topic" ;)

This site is somewhat of a fresh breeze compared to "control-freak" sites... - and as you can see, it is working... No one is killing eachother and/or living in fear of what they can or cannot post ;)

Thank you, Spaced Invader! I know exactly what you mean. I hate control-freak sites. They make me feel like I might as well not comment, so I don't.
