iMPC Pro Log: Introducing iMPC Pro 2

Developer J.P. from Retronyms did an official unveiling of the new iMPC Pro 2. Note for iMPC Pro owners, Apple still hasn't approved the bundle that lets you pick up the new app for $15.

Update: Thanks to reader Charles for pointing out here that the bundle has finally been approved!

Video Description:

We’re back for another episode of iMPC Pro Log, which showcases the features and latest development progress for our iMPC Pro apps. We’re proud to announce our latest collaboration with Akai Professional: iMPC Pro 2.

iMPC Pro 2 fuses innovative song creation with the iconic MPC workflow. iMPC Pro gave us a powerful sampler and beatmaker, and now iMPC Pro 2 has evolved into a full fledged song creation tool with the addition of vocal tracks, Audio Units integration, a sleek new design and tons of new features!

iMPC Pro 2 also comes with 5 additional Sound Packs for FREE (valued at $35). Grab these packs in the AudioCopy Content Store: Essential Club Collection, Classic Cuts, Dub 2 DnB, Melodic Collection, and The Diploma! You can use them in hundreds of AudioCopy compatible apps (including iMPC and iMPC Pro).

This feels so unfinished and lacking quality control...

Spelling mistakes here and there in documentation...

No double click to make knob revert to default ( click brings up a fine tune menu that has gfx variations for the same values). - two pads with same poti values have different sounds (tuning glitch) -devs pls.. Doubleclick knobs to reset to standard values-...

Metronome only while recording ( and one of those annoying ones that has a different tone for the first click)

Cannot "spread" a sample chromatically across a pad matrix ( drag a sample one by one and editing the tuning is possible - why not a simple transpose instead of all this fiddly buisness? - 16 levels tune kinda works around this)

No option of seeing pad sound names in perform mode

Fx pad kinda clicky n poppy - no smoothing applied...

"doubles" loops in some soundpacks

3d perform- kinda silly. That menu/ function without needing to tilt and move the ipad would be good,..
Triggering an empty pad from deck C makes the deck B sound cut off (choke)

Edit sample-> loop at song bpm- it will only loop if you keep that key pressed:/ -> basically the same function as "hold to loop" from non loop sounds..
- setting the end marker- cannot pull to end.. One needs to click drag one slice , let go. Click drag another slice , let got.. Etc.. Till at some time u finally reach the end of the slices loop

No latch mode...

Sounds cut each other off...

Volume just randomly dropped

flux fx - cant i just low pass/ high pass without note repeat? - can i not assign what fx i would like there?? (For master fx)

Im gonna stop now before i write a book...

This feels like the impc pro v1 with a darker skin... Nothing really useful improved as far as i can tell.. Same thing with a new skin.. Kinda disapointing...

- should have been a free update for v1 users...

Iaa needs better implementation (with a keyboard - pressing record and jumping to another app to play is meh..- not all apps display a rec button ) - missing the ability to "copy recorded sound" and "paste on pad" without exporting/importing via audiocopy..

So yeah.. Besides the iaa/auv3 and mute groups, i see nothing new... ($5 would have been a more reasonable price to update)

I really hope i can get some "new" sounds out of this thing (that werent possible with v1)
It feels "rushed to release"

-> just my "first minute " subjective impression while scratching the surface... Your experience may vary greatly;)

-Lets hope some updates will do it good;)
Final (preliminary) verdict: nothing really new and somewhat buggy - has potential though...

p.s. ableton link between impcpro1 and impcpro2 isnt syncing... its drifty, timing is always off and tempo change is ignored...

i swear.. sometimes it feels that a lot of these "coding" companies dont make music (or have anything to do with it) and/or do not test the crap they put out... or, maybe they just dont care and want to make a fast buck... idk...

Thank you very much for letting us know, Charles!
You bet. Thanks for your coverage.

I don't know if it's "Let's Play" worthy, but I would love to know your thoughts on this one -- even if it's just a mini review or a reply to this comment.

Day 2 of surface scratching:

- No fade in/out in "edit sound" - clicky haven for your own created sounds
- Impc university: already pasted sound pack the other day- it is not registering
- Previewing sounds: loops play at a very low bpm.. (Not even normal speed)
- No user folders for audio-pasted material- this will result in endless folders. - assign one folder with subfolders of all "user" pasted content
- Is there really no latch function?
- Tracks-> highlight a track and press the "-" delete key -> this will not delete selected track but the bottom track on list
- Sounds play on track even though all mixer channels and tracks are muted
- Cannot duplicate tracks
- Final output always in red unless pre-output fader is way at the bottom / gain is only positive gain, not negative:/
- Click on track - goto timeline = wrong bank. Clickfest having to go to" timeline" then to "select track" then to "perform" then select bank, then goto timeline again:/
- Fx- they killed the nice buddha pic and simply copy/pasted the "hook" fx module/gui into impc pro2

-One "freeze" of iaa effect after quicksaving (could not repro)

-A recorded sound is playing but not visible in timeline...
