Hermutt Lobby posted another impressive performance on the upcoming Playground app. We first saw Playground back in July. The app appears to be an artist-specific remixer based on the Beatsurfing interface. The app is still in beta.

This really makes a lot of sense as a way of exploiting touchscreen as an instrument. I like how it blends the animated and selection options of a video screen with the slippy slidey physicality of a glass surface with samples and musical notes plus timbre modulation.

I imagine you could take that same template and jam along with something at an entirely different tempo. That would be an interesting test.

How many ways can you use one single template?

Then it would simply come down to an instrumentalist developing/customizing his own templates based on his preferences and abilities.

I can't wait till this comes out and I can't wait until they allow us to import our own samples... creating our own templates might take some more development but hopefully the ability to dump our own samples into the existing templates however we want will not be too far behind..... I'm going to buy it the first day it's released just to say thank you to the developers. I believe they are really talented and I believe they understand that we want to use our own samples just like they do...... I do not care about the included songs at all....zilch.....zip.....zero....... I would never buy an app of this creative magnitude for the sake of remixing other peoples music. I'm buying this for what it will be able to do in the future and I want to encourage them to make it happen quickly!!!
