Mahesh Raghvan & Shravan Sridhar - Aal Aayal Thara Venam

YouTuber Mahesh Raghvan is joined by Shravan Sridhar to form Carnatic 2.0. Together they do an impressive job of modernizing classic Indian styles. This track in particular manages to retain its folksy qualities, with sounds that would fit into any modern American pop track. There are English subtitles for the lyrics, which unfortunately include some slightly misogynistic and nationalistic references. The music is impressive though!

Video Description:

Presenting our first Malayalam single 'Aal Aayal' based on an extremely popular folk song written by Kavalam Narayana Panicker. Produced and performed by Carnatic 2.0 (Mahesh Raghvan and Shravan Sridhar).

Ken Karsh - Ambient Meditation Moment

Ken Karsh created a beautiful ambient loop using just his guitar into the new FAC Alteza! He's looping that inside of Quantiloop, with iFX Rack for the solo guitar over it.

Video Description:

Two noteworthy AU apps are FAC Alteza and iFX Rack. I saw a demo of Alteza being used for ambient loops and decided to try a meditation improv. iFX is what the solo guitar is processed with. Alteza was used for the ambient loop, which is ALL guitar. No synths were used here. Of course, Quantiloop Pro continues to be my go-to looper app. I really tried to get the meditative vibe (no shredding allowed).

Bit Maestro with GlitchCore

Developer Alex Matheu shows off his upcoming GlitchCore app with David Blake's Bit Maestro. As someone who has been covering these two early iOS developers for many years, I'm especially happy to see their apps together like this. This one doesn't even need a volume warning, because Alex keeps it all smooth!

They go so well together

Travdidthat - Pop Smoke Tribute Beat

Reader Travdidthat created a beat in the style of Pop Smoke, who was tragically murdered in his own home on Wednesday. Trav points out Pop Smoke's influence in bringing UK Drill to American audiences.

Video Description:

This is a tribute beat to the late Pop Smoke killed in his LA home in what appeared to be a home invasion... this beat was inspired by his flow and his producer ricobeatz... Popsmoke definitely set a trend with the uk drill style over here in nyc and spread the culture across the nation leave a like to celebrate the life and success he left behind..!”

Bit Maestro by David Blake

David Blake, developer of Jam Maestro, released Bit Maestro! This app is inspired by the creative hardware bit crusher effect OTO Biscuit. The Biscuit mangles your input by selectively muting or inverting small bits of your audio signal to create entirely new harmonics. Bit Maestro builds on this idea by also reordering the audio waveform through bit manipulation. It can do all of this in AUv3, IAA, or Audiobus!

I was quite impressed by the preview that demonstrated how the built-in filters help to manage the mangling. Bit Crushing can sound obnoxious to my ears, but with the filter smoothing things out; Bit Maestro sounds rich and interesting.

Bit Maestro App Store Description:

Bit Maestro is an AUv3 bit crusher that goes beyond regular bit rate reduction, allowing you to affect and manipulate your sound at the individual bit level. Taking inspiration from the legendary ‘OTO Biscuit’ it enables you to selectively mute or invert individual bits in your audio signal. As it does this it creates distortions in your waveform, introducing a wide range of harmonics. Bit Maestro pushes this concept even further, allowing you for the first time to even rearrange the order in which the bits are evaluated, reassigning their value and giving rise to waveform distortions not previously seen in any distortion module.

This sound can be further enhanced in a number of ways.
- Three filters are available (low pass, low shelf, high shelf) which can be used to tame or enhance the aggressiveness of the sound.
- A delay line to inject a different groove into a bar or provide a basis for interesting mod effects.
- A modulation panel to continually evolve your sound and introduce further aliasing effects.

The end result is a plugin that can introduce huge depth and power to your sound. One that offers you the nuanced control to design your perfect digital distortion, ranging from subtle warbling to huge crushing sounds that can transform any drum or bass line.

Supports:
- AUv3
- Inter-app Audio
- Audiobus

There's a preset demo on the official YouTube channel. Embedded here is a new 30 second promo.
