More PPG Wavegenerator details

Wolfgang Palm has posted a screenshot of the new PPG Wavegenerator!

This is quite unique from the NWave screenshot we've seen. Though by this screenshot it seems I was incorrect in assuming Waldorf was involved in this project, as their name does not appear anywhere.

Update: I've been in touch with Russ Hughes at Sociatech, who is handling PR for Wolfgang. He confirms that Waldorf is not involved with this project. He sent over a press release which included a very interesting detail!

The PPG Wavegenerator offers iPad users the chance to have the same great sounds and synthesis potential with new creative options, only made possible with the iPad, for example the user can make his own waves and wavetables, previously this was only possible with the WaveTerm in the 80s. Now the user can create them simply by drawing them.

Oh. Hell. Yes!

One of the advantages to wavetable synths is the ability to travel through the tables for new tones. This is similar to the way Animoog will give you a different sound based on where the cursor is located, when dragging your finger left or right along a timbre. Here is a demo of "Walking Through The Wavetables" in a PPG Wave 2.2, built in 1982.

Free Pussy Riot!

Pussy Riot is a Russian post-punk-post-feminist protest performance act, that recently came into some legal trouble. Three of the women were arrested for an unauthorized performance atop Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.

The federal prosecutor is trying to get them jail-time for "hooliganism", and "abusing God", of all things.

That's where The Klirrfaktor comes in with his modular synth and iPad, running Voice Synth, to demand: "Free Pussy Riot!"

You may have been expecting something else from the headline...
At least there is synth porn, and Voice Synth is still on sale!

Waldorf announce PPG Wavegenerator for iPad

Correction: Waldorf is not involved with this app, as has been clarified by Russ Hughes in the comments here. My fault, I think I just got used to tacking "Waldorf" to the front of the letters PPG.

Synthtopia pointed out a little tidbit on Facebook, as Waldorf announces a new app coming "in the next few weeks" for iPad.

Yes it's true; from the Father of the PPG Wave comes the future of synthesis on the iPad... coming soon are going to be sound samples, pictures and more info from the man himself. Like this page to find out more about this exciting new iPad App - it really sounds like nothing else you have ever heard.

Exciting news! The Waldorf PPG Wave is an advanced wavetable synth on PC/Mac, itself a recreation of a high-end synth from the late 80s produced by Palm Products GmbH, which was later absorbed into Waldorf.

The only screenshot we have of the app is this one, held by PPG Wave inventor Wolfgang Palm.

NWave -Click for higher-res screenshot!

This is an entirely separate app from the NWave app in development from NLog developer, Tempo Rubato, with Waldorf. The screenshot on the left reveals a distinctly different visualizer and layout.

I contacted Tempo Rubato's Rolf Wöhrmann for comment. He said that official details would be coming very soon, but emphasized that they are indeed separate apps.

"NWave is a different beast... !"
-Rolf Wöhrmann

Waldorf must be taking iOS music pretty damn seriously to be investing in two apps!

Clarification: As Zymos points out in the comments here, Wolfgang is not Waldorf. It may be that this is done independently from Waldorf. That is really unclear, though Waldorf is not mentioned anywhere on the Facebook page. Since PPG has just been a part of Waldorf for so long, I am under the impression that any use of the PPG Wave name is authorized by Waldorf.
