Phase84 for Android

Retronyms has just released Phase84 for Samsung tablets and phones! This is possibly thanks to Samsung's Professional Audio SDK, which provides for truly low latency performance on the Android platform! I asked Retronym's co-founder JP Walton about how good the latency truly is:

"Latency is great. It feels the same as an iPad on the test devices we have here."

The app even supports Samsung's SoundCamp, a free mobile DAW complete with sequencer! All of this is some pretty exciting news for owners of Samsung Galaxy S5+, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Tab S2, and Galaxy Tab 5.

Phase84 for Android:

Phase84 includes over 110 presets including basses, leads, pads, bell tones, sweeps, atmospheric sounds, pseudo-realistic tones, and more. Users can tweak the synth using a combination of advanced envelope, LFO, Delay, Filter, and Oscillator settings. Phase84 includes features for expressive performance, a groove editor, and an advanced multi-octave keyboard.

Phase84 will be available exclusively from Samsung Galaxy Apps for $4.99. According to Retronyms, it takes advantage of Samsung’s Professional Audio SDK (SAPA) to deliver low latency performance. Samsung Galaxy devices including Galaxy S5, S6, S6 Edge, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Tab 5, and Galaxy Tab S2 support Samsung’s Pro Audio tech making this the first version of Phase84 to run on phones as well as tablets.

Phase84 also integrates with SoundCamp, a free mobile DAW by Samsung. Users can seamlessly load the synth into a track in SoundCamp, then record and edit notes on a piano roll sequencer. Combining Phase84 with other tracks, virtual instruments, and recorded audio, allows users to create full compositions and finished songs.

Phase84 features include:

  • Advanced Keyboard section controls portamento, polyphony, pitchbend, mod wheel mapping, octave & more.
  • Expressive Perform Mode with Groove Gate and two axis controllers.
  • Naturalistic unison for super thick pads and sweeps.
  • Oscillator Section: 9 Params, 2 General-Purpose Oscillators, 1 Formant Oscillator.
  • Mix Section: 8 Params including Delay Amount and Pulse Width.
  • Envelope Section: Amplitude & Shaper Envelopes. Fully visualized & interactive ADSR plus special Fade Param.
  • Delay/Filter Section: Stereo delay with loss modeling and a punchy overdriven analog-style filter.
  • 3 LFOs: 4 waveforms, optional delay and repeat count, and can go into the audible frequency range.
  • Samsung Professional Audio technology.
  • SoundCamp Support.

Buy Phase84 on Samsung Galaxy Apps: $4.99

To the person who commented negatively about Retronyms, will you please elaborate with specifics?

I found Tabletop to be my most productive app for making music.

why didn't they fix the impc pro before doing this?

Why didn't they fix iProphet before doing this?

I have identified a huge bug in one of tabletop in app purchases which has been acknowledged by them ,
This was Nearly a year ago and it still hasn't been fixed.
All they are bothered about is their sample packs and that wej thing ,
Look after your existing customers retronyms, coz it's us that's put you where you are

so what sound card do you use with the impc pro Jakob?

@Peedoff

Im curious about what bug are you referring to.

I'm actually on an iPad 2 still, so I haven't been using the iPad for much lately. When I did, Tabletop was the app that "clicked" for me. I have a bunch of apps that are waiting to be used on a more powerful iPad like KORG Gadget. The thing about Tabletop was the way you recorded bars... it was intuitive.

I'm waiting to see how Retronyms reacts to the iPad Pro.

I think he was asking what sound card you are using because you asked someone else to elaborate on specific problems with retronyms?

While calling them scammers is a little extreme I would definitely call them bad programmers and agree that they seem to continuously ignore huge problems in their software in favor of sample packs spam and that incredibly stupid (sorry) wej.

I own both iMpc pro and Iprophet and each have several bugs and just plain horrible midi implementation. I have contacted Retronyms about the issues going back 9 months now, they are aware and at this point don't seem to really care. The only worse premium apps are the ipolysix and ims20 from korg whose midi somehow predates the iPad.

Audio dropout on zignal , as the loop repeats . kinda makes it not fit for purpose.

October 19, 2015  | person_outline Peedoff

Ever since they took over Audiocopy - and had amazingly huge, persistent issues from the outset - I don't even *use* AC2 if I can help it, even if it's more stable now.

Don't get me wrong: I want to like Retronyms, as they're local folks with lots of ambition (I mean, iMPC was bound to disappoint somebody as those are big shoes to fill) but when they turn a blind ear to known bugs in order to pursue blahware like Wej...

But don't take my word for it:
