Auturia iMini Updated with Audiobus & VirtualMIDI!

Arturia's Minimoog app, iMini, now supports both Audiobus and VirtualMIDI! Finally this app is going to be getting use outside of Tabletop. It is even on sale for half-off!

What's new in 1.1:

  • Audiobus!
Connect iMini to GarageBand and other DAWS.
  • Background audio:
iMini responds to midi even in the background
  • Virtual midi:
iMini responds to other apps that send midi
  • Ignore midi devices:
select midi devices to not respond too

Other bug fixes and improvements too!

Buy iMini on iTunes: $9.99 (On Sale, from $19.99)

Thanks Retronyms & Arturia!

I gave it a test run with Magellan in the effect slot on an ipad 2, and it worked like charm (all effects on, and an arpeggio going on inside Magellan). Did not expect the iPad 2 to handle that all that. I also tried using Nlog pro in the effect slot, but that didn't work that well, although I did not init the Nlog synth engine, could find where to do it..

Anyway awesome update. Retronyms, could you please add one more voice to iMini (making it 4 voices in poly mode)?

A dream come true!

great update!

one of the bug fixes was the onscreen keyboard response, it wouldnt trigger notes if you touched "between" keys, now it works like a charm and is actually quite playable! :)

Fantastic news.

Ha! I had people on Arturia's forum and other forums tell me I was a squid-brained-stupid-head-squirrel-fart for believing that "Retronyms would ever let Arturia get iMini a seat on the Audiobus" Who's the squirrel-fart now?!

The iMini 1.1 Update Tutorial has some great tips for using the app, including 1.0 features that I never knew about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW7IQzP6xiw.

Hi guys! Somebody knows how to change the midi channel in the imini

Wonderful news! Finally bought this thing; with audiobus support, it's a no-brainer.

O happy day... And on sale... :)

Anyone have any luck using imini and beatmaker2 in audiobus, controlling imini via beatmaker2 midi?

April 16, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLittlewoodg

So, iMPC must be next ;-)

April 16, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTrueyorky

@pedrismo I was trying the same thing. It appears to be strictly omni from an external keyboard.

Ok, thanks¡

Gotta give credit where credit is due . . . a really big thanks to Arturia and Retronyms for bringing iMini into Audiobus. The update has really made my day! I know we bitched a lot about it, but like I said before it's only because there is amazing potential in this synth. Thank you for listening to your customers, we certainly do appreciate it and look forward to making some great music.

Anyone have any insight into whether this is worth it for people who already have this app in vst form as well as Animoog?

April 16, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSciential

If you could make use of the VST on the iPad, then it's worth the $10 in my opinion, but it really comes down to your workflow. It's an emulation of a classic Minimoog which is vastly different than the Animoog app, but you already knew that. :)

So far no luck: iMini and Beatmaker2 aren't playing well together midi-wise...audio in playing iMini's keyboard is sweet through Audiobus, but the midi control via Beatmaker isn't happening. Unlike cubasis whose midi controls iMini perfectly well, and unlike Beatmaker when easily controlling other synths like Wavemapper and Sunrizer via midi...what am I doing wrong, anyone?

April 16, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLittlewoodg

Not just beat maker, ifretless bass/guitar also do not work as midi controllers for imini, but thumbjam works perfectly? Just some quick experiments.

Can we use it with a midi keyboard without launching table top?

April 17, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSuggathang

iMini wont talk to BeatMaker2 via midi, I discovered using Genome with Virtual Ports switched on allowed me to route the midi from iMini to BM2 and vice versa. I guess MidiBridge can perform the same routing too, but I havent tried it.

April 17, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSimplex

Yes, you don't need Tabletop at all.

April 17, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterA.C.

for what it's worth, in cubasis I had to select 'virtual midi' as output destination and NOT 'iMini'

I don't know where it's going wrong but I'm getting timing jitter from cubasis to iMini that isn't present for sunrizer, magellan or animoog. could be the lack of midi sync?

April 17, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRMG

Midi bridge turned out to be the hook up, as is the case with WOPR to Beatmaker and probably a couple others...frustration soothed. I admit I don't really fully grok Midi-bridge (the routing for iMini-Beatmaker in midi bridge is Midibridge to Midibridge) but to works-

I'm using it on my ipad1 and working fine with most presets as long as i keep poly off which is ok with me (a mono synth in mono mode? Ok. For now.)

April 17, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymouse

Thanks gatearray! With your point about workflow in mind, I'll probably pick this up. I'd rather pop open the app and run it through Audiobus than hook up an interface and route the audio into my iPad that way. Plus this version has some features that the free VST doesn't (Arturia gave it away for a limited time in 2012, but some of the features were axed).

April 17, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSciential

Anybody got this to work with sound cells ???

April 17, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMr. Wonderful

In case anyone is interested, so far with poly off and chorus off it is fine on my ipad1
