Werkbench 2.0 with Audiobus Support!
Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 9:43AM The popular sampler-sequencer Werkbench was updated to 2.0 with lots of new features including Audiobus support!
What's new in 2.0:
Werkbench 2.0.0 has arrived for the iPad and there are some significant new features and improvements:
Sampling
Everyone has been waiting for Audiobus support. Ta-daa!
There is a new file player / importer that supports Audio Paste and iTunes sharing (.wav). You can sample directly from the player as if it were an input.
Overdub option to layer incoming samples.
Flexible Sequencer
You can now chain sequences and set pattern lengths on the fly for each side independently. Sequences can be anywhere from 1 - 128 steps long in total!
Copy patterns to other slots by dragging.
Dub Echo
We revised the echo. It sounds sweet. You have control over feedback and mix separately. Safe to say that it is now a full-on magic dub weapon.
Step Editing
Echo send for each step so you can keep your bass drums dry. Expect more step editing options in future 2.x updates!
Buy WerkBench on iTunes: $6.99 |
Nice update! I'm especially excited for the individual step effects sends, and the promise of future step editing in coming updates.

They ruined the graphics.... Before it had a lovely steampunk feel to it, which was the main reason I bought it.
Now it's just kinda meh
i love the way it looks now. clean and polished. a steampunk theme is ok (if that's what you want to call what it was), but i found it a little amateur looking.
Overall this update is incredible. Improvements all over the place.
(my ipad1 doesn't like it as much with memory problems, but i can't complain about progress. the reality is my ipad1 is old now).
well done bolasol!
The graphics were the #1 complaint from previous versions. While I loved the look, enough people let me know that it was getting in the way of their creativity. I'm really happy with how it is now. Ebony and ivory. Simple. Classy.
That said, perhaps we will add a few more skins / customizable textures in the future to accomodate a wider variety of personalities!
I am liking this update a lot. Cool new features and cool new look. Keep it fresh!
Looks waay nicer now, IMO.
Great update, thanks!
It's not what I wanted to call it. When it came out the app described itself as a steampunk beatbox....
The actual interface could be 15-20% bigger- why have that background taking up space at the top and bottom?
Oh, cause the fancy controls take up more space.
Nevermind.....
ive been looking forward to werkbench coming to audiobus since audiobus came out,i only have a ipad 2,the new werkbench is great fun & the first thing i tried that i have been looking forward to is playing werkbench with samplr in input & record with multitrack or any recording app, sadly my ipad was not happy at all,i turned of samplr added a drum app, they played fine together, but once i pressed record on multitrack daw werkbench lost half volumn,i might well have had settings wrong in werkbench or ipad 2 is not good enough, until i can afford a better ipad it looks like i will have to paste werkbench into other apps to play in audiobus,
Outstanding release Bolasol!! Congrats!!!
Your demo videos are always great to watch... makes me wish someday I could play like that :) so far for me it's a nice sample/noise rhythm machine -- no song comes out, but it entertains :D
Cheers,

Just wonderful... thank you Bolasol! Love your promo videos as well :-).
I guess this means nothing to anyone but me, but it sure seems to take a nice stereo sample imported via audiopaste and flatten it to mono. Is there some reason for this because grain science does this as well and it sort of sucks.
Love the new look, I found the old one annoying after a while... always enjoy videos of Werkbench being used...
It's not that big a deal, but I really liked the look of the old interface and wouldn't mind if it came back as an option, if you're taking votes. Thanks.
So great! Love the new look. Overdub is epic!
Could anyone respond to what smith was saying?? That sounds serious and I'd like to know before I purchase!
Sounds great. I would like a futuristic glowy skin if you design skins :)
Personally I think the new look is a big improvement over the old, and is what put me off getting the first version, cos it did my eyes in.... Anyway..... who remembers that line from the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, when those idiots who crash landed into earth made from hairdressers and telephone sanitises, and media luvvies were trying to "re-invent the wheel"... but *couldn't work out what colour it should be*?? haha!
As for 'what colour it should be', look at the prototype!

WOW! huge props.. loved the app before - but the update brings it to anoher level. thanks!
but what are the little globe symbols for?
all the best from switzerland
The globe is part of the global/local switch. Switch on global to make the fancy controls affect all 4 patterns at once. It is really useful when you have chained patterns. Local is the default and Werkbench will switch back to local when you change patterns.
When will there be a manual ?
is there a possibility to audio-copy sounds into the various steps? or is this only for playing the copied sound "beside" the steps? in this case, i finally should download audiobus i guess..
once again: thanks for this great app bolasol! it's worth every single cent
Not sure if anyone will see this but here is a response to the last 2 comments:
The manual can be found here: http://www.bolasol.com/werkbench/manual
...and @simple simon, yes you can sample directly from the importer by arming the 'sample' button that appears once you've pasted or opened a file into the importer.
Cheers!
