Borderlands - Intense new instrument with video!

Chris Carlson's Borderlands looks like a fine attempt to break free from the world of knobs and sliders; to just perform and play with on screen widgetry. This is another granular synth experiment, but before you go rolling your eyes you should watch the video! It looks like it plays as a cross-between TC-11 and what Reactable wanted to be.

Chris attempts to describe the app with this tidbit:
The user is envisioned as an organizer of sound, simultaneously assuming the roles of curator, performer, and listener.

Obviously he's studying Computer Research in Music and Accoustics at Stanford Univerist, and not marketing, but the video speaks for itself:

He hopes to have this released Late Spring 2012.

This is really cool. I downloaded the Linux version on my netbook and played around with it. It has a new way of interacting with sound that is addictive and electronically symphonic. I can't wait to be able to tweak on my iPad. I just hope they support the first gen iPad!!
