BeatMaker 2 Vs. MIDI Fighter
Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 9:59AM YouTuber Kyle Mohr hooked up his MIDI Fighter 3D to his iPad running BeatMaker 2. He imported the free DJ Techtools sample pack, released yesterday to subscribers of their newsletter, and went to town!
Video Description:
With the most recent update of coreMidi to iOS 6.0, a All-in-one Camera Connection Kit for iPad ($3.00) from Amazon.com, an iPad2, the BeatMaker2 App ($19.99), a DJ Tech Tools Midi Fighter Classic controller and a Midi over USB cable you can now import and play Ableton Live drum racks or any samples using just a midi fighter and iPad.
You can now jam with friends on the go, or play sound packs with your midi fighter controller without the need of a laptop, Ableton Live, Traktor, etc.
Samples used in this Demo are From DJ Tech Tools' Mad Zach Soundpack 23 - Jazzy McFly and the Westside Riders

Very cool bit of kit. Also very expensive. Cool vid
i have everything in this video EXCEPT ios6 lol... can i still do this or will it only work with ios6?
It should work fine in iOS 5.1+ maybe slightly earlier.
funny that the prices are only displayed for the cheap stuff.
thanks tim :D
Very cool. I've been going back and forth to either get a midi fighter or a quneo, or wait for Mpc fly. If only the korg nanos were shaped in a 4x4 grid, I hate the side by side rectangle of it. Nice vid tho!
What's the midi fighter actually bringing to the party?
On a laptop or PC I can see that buttons in the right layout may help but having to carry around that large lump of plastic rather than press the pads on the ipad don't get it really......
Does anyone know how to get this working with beatmaker 2? The midi fighter uses midi notes to trigger, but the octaves are off. You cannot change the midi note values in midi fighter or beatmaker as far as I've seen.
You should be able to change the MIDI notes in MIDI Fighter Utility. Get it at the store page and click on Support, about mid-way down the page. Or at least I'm virtually certain you can, I don't have a MIDI Fighter, but I believe this is something I've seen others do in videos.
Hey would you happen to know if this will work with the Midi Fighter 3D? I have everything 5.1ios, camera connection kit, IPAD 2. All i think I need is a USB Hub for it because It "draws too much power"
Any idea how I would go about configuring the tilts for effects and also how to configure on different banks on Beatmaker2? or is there a more suitable App or way to do this?
It might be asking for too much but anything to lighten the load for portability factor. And it's also cool to touch stuff during sets.
