AudioShare Update

AudioShare, from BitWiz developer Jonatan Liljedahl just got another big update!

What's new:

  • Select and move or delete multiple items
  • Double-tap PLAY button to loop
  • Add fast preview buttons in the library
  • Enable background audio
  • New recorder screen with level meters
  • Automatically Normalize recordings
  • Add Tools menu with Normalize and Convert to LPCM
    (if not already 16/44.1k WAV)
  • Improved sharpness of icons and symbols
  • Fix speaker routing problem on iPhone
  • Allow other apps to export audio into AudioShare
(SDK will be made available soon)
  • Misc tweaks and improvements

Buy AudioShare on iTunes: $2.99

The inclusion of background audio is a nice precursor to Audiobus support, when that SDK becomes available. Speaking of SDKs, there is some interesting news nested here about AudioShare offering its own for direct importing.

Now that AudioShare supports Sonoma's ACP and Intua's Pasteboard, I guess Jonatan was looking for a challenge and decided to start his own format as well!

Update: Well that was fast, the AudioShare SDK just came out! As Jonatan mentions in the comments here, it is going to allow other apps to transfer their files directly into AudioShare without manually copying and pasting. Implementation is supposed to be very easy, "With one line of code!"

Yes, I will post more about the AudioShare SDK as soon as I make it available. But in short it's a way for other apps to easily export a soundfile into AudioShare without having to manually copy and paste it. Under the hood, it uses the general pasteboard. So it just transfers the raw file data, no conversions taking place, etc.

Wow! This has grown faster than my ... yikes I can't say that! Anyway, there were only two things missing for this to be a perfect single purpose app, background audio and looping, and this update has them both. Awesome! Can't wait to see where this one goes from here.

good update. i think i'd rather see a loop button rather than double tapping the play button though. is there a way to turn loop off once you double tap the play? not like there isn't enough room for one more button next to the play button.

sorry ipad novice here, will someone direct me to a great tutorial on audioshare, and what is the purpose of the looping in the app?

one more question, is there a way to have a standard library on my ipad that all my apps use, I primarily use the ipad for sampling and sequencing of samples, is there a way that all of the apps i use can draw their source material from the same Library I have stored somewhere on my ipad instead of each app like beatmaker, isequence, etc… having their own library?

and can this app facilitate that, or what else can I do?

AudioShare is as close as it is going to get, to a single audio library on iOS, Moogist. Apple's got the file-system so locked down, apps aren't allowed to play with each other's file directories.

This is the best tutorial video I could find on it. It shows how Audio Copy Paste lets you copy a lot of different files for importing them all in one go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNUqpjId5bA

Thanks for your help Tim, I can't believe there is so little video on the app I hope they put some out.

does anyone know if it's possible to use this app to record a snippet of audio from my itunes library on the ipad, I ask this because when using beatmaker or one of the other apps they allow me to import a whole audio file but what if I just want to record a few seconds from the beginning of a file?
would audioshare work for that and if not what app would be good for that?

AudioShare does not have itunes music library import, yet. But it's on the TODO list.

Jonatan thank you for your repsonse. I was hoping more for a recording feature that allowed you to record audio while itunes was playing, or that would allow you to play from your itunes playlist from within audioshare and just press record at the moment you want to catch a sample. all the production apps have the itunes import already but for folks who just want to move through their source library and catch this part and that part move on to the next it would be a really nice workflow enhancement.

@starving moogist, I see what you mean. Unfortunately that is technically impossible, as far as I can tell. No app can record the output of another app. AudioBus will solve this, when it goes public. But even then, I really don't think Apple will add AudioBus support to their itunes/ipod/music player app.

But if/when I add itunes import to AudioShare, it might be possible to only copy a selected part of a track, etc..

Hi again Jonatan.

this app called tabletop allows it, but there are no utility apps that seem to allow it yet. Tabletop is nice but I thought
it would be more advantages to not have to go open up such a big app and make all the connections just for this functionality.
if audioshare could do this we samplist out here could really streamline our workflow by doing our sampling and sample organizing all in the same place :)
