I continued to have high hopes for Augmented Reality in music apps. Surje Software Solutions Inc. has much lower expectations with Fragment Reality. This is another half-assed attempt to do something with the media, but it even looks boring in the demo video.
Fragment Reality iTunes Description:Essential for anyone who loves Augmented Reality and Music. Fragment Reality is easy to use, powerful and unlike anything you've tried before.
This app puts you in command of a symphony of Augmented Reality (AR) instruments, which you can strum, tap, and change in real time. Making music is easy with smart virtual instruments that balance on your real world tables and floors, letting you walk around your room to interact with your instruments in 360 degrees.
Easy to understand controls are fun for the first timer, and open up a world of theory and ideas for the more seasoned composer. Mixing various musical building blocks with unique keys, chords, octaves and your touching patterns allows you to be expressive with music composition. Explore a single cube by subdividing the notes further, or lay out chord progressions from your favorite artists. The possibilities are endless which is exactly why you'll come back to this app again and again.
Inaugural sounds include acoustic and electric guitar, bass, violin, piano, organ, bells and drums. These tones can be applied within musical cubes and fractal wind chimes that generate out of this world melodies. Tie it all together with custom drum loops you create to be as simple or sculpted as you like. Your instruments can be created and managed in real time, all in stunning 3D sculptures that occupy your augmented reality.
The main instruments are musical cubes, tuned into chords, which can contain hundreds of virtual "notes" tuned to the same key. You pick the tuning of the blocks (or accept default) , then tap and swipe the instruments to sound the notes. As you strum in different directions and touch different notes you can hear (and see) pleasant harmonies and melodies within the key. Cubes can be further drafted by cutting away notes, changing notes, or creating new octaves.
Choose drums and get a beat pyramid, an intuitive 3d way of looking at the 4 beats in a bar. With control over tempo and the tone of each beat you can create and then control various rhythms that you then control alongside the other instruments.
In addition to the blocks and beats are musical wind chimes which use fractal math to create unique melodies and chords. These crystals can be used as instruments to generate repeating tones for music, accompany the other instruments, or just also provide beautiful visuals and soothing original soundscapes in keys and tempos of your choosing. There are millions of unique crystals which you can place in your room where they hang and behave like wind chimes in response to your touch.
The underlying math visualization itself is a joy for those of you interested in exploring fractals in 3D. The instruments all use 3D fractals including the Menger Sponge, Mosley Snowflake, Sierpinski Pyramid, Jerusalem Cube, Koch Curve, Pythagoras Tree and Dragon Curve. Subdividing the cubes creates higher octave notes and more detailed 3D shapes.
Play two instruments at a time for free and choose to upgrade to pro for unlimited instruments and no ads.
We are working on adding more features and sounds, and welcome your feedback and support.
The frontier of AR apps is here and shows that the possibilities are boundless.
