Let's Play with Troublemaker

I jumped on Troublemaker as soon as it was out, and was immediately impressed. With circuit modeling, Audiobus, Ableton Link, and AUv3 this is the modern TB-303 app we've been needing on iOS. I've had a lot of fun with it this week! So much so that I forgot I was recording a video twice on this Let's Play. The video got quite long as a result, so I edited out the second impromptu jam session to keep it under 30 minutes!

Video Description:

Troublemaker is an excellent new TB-303 clone with an impressive amount of features and an exquisite sound! This is the latest app from Bram Bos, developer of Phasemaker and Ruismaker! Just after this was posted Troublemaker got an update adding the Realtime Mutation Probability Engine! This new feature makes your sequenced notes morph, with controls that let you dictate how they go about that. The update also includes MIDI Sync with start/stop!

What's new in Troublemaker v1.1:

Thank you for the support and the great feedback! Here's what's new and improved in version 1.1:

- Realtime Mutation Probability Engine
- Responds to MIDI Clock Sync
- Responds to MIDI Start / Stop commands
- Audiobus Playback Triggers
- Cleaner Envelopes
- Slightly tuned LFO
- Minor improvements

Thanks for the awesome video Tim (had me giggling), the loss of time captures the essence of how much fun Troublemaker is to use and explore (it's been like that for me all week since it's release). The manuals really interesting, it's amazing that this software uses 4 x over sampling (explains one of the reasons why it sounds so good like Model 15) and it really is a must have for any 303 lover as it's great how Bram has extended upon the original etc. I found it sounds particularly amazing through some high quality convolution reberb (been using AltiSpace) as the impulse responses (halls in particular) bring out every nuance and shimmery detail etc. I do hope the ability to store 'sound presets' in standalone mode is added in the upcoming update as I've been having to create a list of the settings in AudioShare when I've been noodling around (or taking screen shots etc) but I'm sure that aspect will get sorted out in due course. The update looks really interesting with the random probability element (exciting stuff) and I think it's really nice how Bram has made it so easy to export the MIDI pattern phrases as there's no reason not to create long (complex) evolving arrangements too (rather than just short repetitions as with the original) by stringing different MIDI parts (and variations) together - truly very inspiring and creative software! Awesome! :)

It's great but as a 90s Goa head scarred for life on acid, I would never use it in my Psycore tracks, but it sounds amazing anyways and good luck for the future.

Thanks guys!

@ConfusedKitten: Yeah, I like the way he wrote the manual. It's short and sweet, with bits of life. The jargon in there is all real synthesis, and not some nonsense marketing hype. I'd also love to see the ability to save sound presets. It's just a few knobs... but it's enough knobs to justify taking screenshots, and if that's the case we could use presets!

@psysword: I love 303s on PsyTrance as an occasional accent. Your Psycore is super agro... you could go full squelch on that!

@bruderkong: LOL! Yeah, that was a spur of the moment thing. I was thinking about whether anyone is watching at that point, because of the acid-haters. I didn't know where the sentence was going when I started, but I liked where it ended too!

I want this on the back of a t-shirt with a picture of a 303 on the front.
