Sensual Sax by Embertone

Embertone have been releasing desktop virtual instruments for a while, but their first iOS app is Sensual Sax! This is a collaboration with iFretless developer Blue Mangoo! It may look gimmicky as fuck with the giant "SEX" knob, but this one sounds good and includes the features you'd hope for with MIDI, Audiobus, and AUv3!

Sensual Sax iTunes Description:

Sometimes you just want to put it in your mouth and blow. But when a reed gets worn or your arms get heavy, your sensual nature can outlast even the swankiest saxophone. What's a swinging lover like you to do?

Enter Sensual Saxophone - the digital solution to sax saturation. Tease the sound at the start for a caress of the ear, and then blow a long note that busts below the belt. With the sentimental setting of sensual sax, you'll always have the right accompaniment for an evening that echoes with pleasure.

Bring your sax levels to 11... Try Sensual Sax today!

Features:
- MIDI input / output
- IAA
- Audio Unit 3
- Audiobus
- True legato sampling for realistic note transitions
- Three sets of articulations

They've even released a demo video to show off some of the deeper features beyond the SEX Knob. Reader RedSkyLullaby just posted a good example of himself jamming with it. Embedded here is the official video.

Seriously? It's not that it sounds bad. But sorry, I just can't take it seriously.

The instrument can make some fantastic sounds, yet it's been largely relegated to the realm of cheese by tv/film of the 80s... And apps with visual design like this.

The idea of having both reverb and little runs and "saxisms" that increase with a knob is clever and pretty funny. I think the developer must be a sax player.

Taking the kind of flourishes that are most closely associated with cheezy sax and putting them on a sex knob is tongue in cheek. Someone making a movie with 70's & 80's sensibilities may find a use for this. Or just hire some old saxophone player. I bet they can all do that stuff.

Tongue on reed actually.

From her debut album (1990) 'Saxuality'.

Here's some cheesy smooth sensual saxophony from me https://youtu.be/3ljbbjtEX_Y

@RedSkyLullaby: Nice! I've added a link to that in the post.
Kenny G played soprano sax, this sounds like a sampled tenor. And the long history of this venerated instrument has not been even remotely relegated to 80s soundtracks, even though this app may emulate that particular style. Please take some time to listen to some authentic acoustic music, not film tropes. Sorry, I just had to say it.

Good one!
What's here not to love? AU, AB, IAA, MIDI and it is universal, for only 5 bucks! I instantly bought it and absolutely love it. I dig the interface with the colorful 80's new retro wave look and animations and a sense of cheesy humor. Despite the sexual innuendo which might appear corny to some, this app breathes quality and it sounds and plays great. The built-in reverb and delay effects, plus the variety of the samples and vibrato really do a phenomenal job at making this instrument sound lush, atmospheric and pretty expressive and convincing sounding. I am an instant fan and hope this developer will release more apps like this one at the same price point.

The first time I took sax seriously was the Lost Highway soundtrack. Like I said, it can make some fantastic sounds.

And now I have experienced Kenny G on tenor

I'm a jazz and funk guy so I bought this thing. Now, my gold standard for sax instruments on IOS is the alto and tenor on SampleTank. This app falls short. I really don't like that I have to contend with too much delay and reverb to obtain a throaty sound. Experiencing a bit of latency on my old IPad 2.
Tried to use Thumbjam as a midi in controller and the app wouldn't respond to vibrato and pitch bend. Other apps do.I like the idea of a sax app but this one needs:

Adjustable attack.
Means to change key width.
Let me have access to how throaty or smooth it sounds without the other effects.
Volume control.
In addition I'd like to see a selection for different reed types. I'd pay for IAP'S for that as long as the other stuff gets tended to.

very good points Bob, I purchased the app and hope the Dev responds to your concerns.

Just a heads-up for Modstep users: I installed this app, played around with it for a while and then went back to using other stuff. Fast forward a few weeks: I tried to launch Modstep, and it CTD'd on me. I tried a restart, reset, reinstall, but nothing worked. I filled out the bug report form on the Modstep support site, and the developer asked if by any chance I had installed Sensual Sax, as he had discovered that for some weird reason both apps are incompatible (something I didn't even think was possible on iOS, as I thought apps were completely isolated from each other). Sure enough, I uninstalled Sensual Sax, and Modstep is working again. Both developers are working on a solution, but in the meantime, if you're having trouble with Modstep, Sensual Sax might be the culprit...
